Ballinskelligs (Latitude: 51.845959 Longitude: -10.178833) is located just off the Ring of Kerry (N70) on the R566 on the shore of Ballinskelligs Bay.

The Glen, Ballinskelligs’ nearest neighbour is approximately 4 miles further on along the Skellig Ring Road, the R566.
Depending on where you are travelling from, below is a list of options on how to get to Ballinskelligs.
Killarney is the nearest train station to Ballinskelligs (a distance of approximately 50miles),

Cahersiveen is the nearest town to Ballinskelligs (a distance of approximately 8miles)

Bus Service

Local Link Kerry provide a range of Public & Community Bus Services all over Kerry and provide the following services in Ballinskelligs, they also provide services to South Kerry from all main towns in Kerry.
  1. R287b Dromid – Ballinskelligs – Caherciveen –  every Monday & Wednesday (timed to meet Local Link Kerry 285 in Caherciveen which travels to Killorglin and there it is timed to meet Bus Eireann 279b to / from Killarney 
  2. R37 Ballinskeligs – Caherciveen – Glenbeigh – Killorglin – Tralee – every Thursday 
  3. R40 Ballinskelligs to Caherciveen – Every Friday

The nearest train station to Ballinskelligs is in Killarney- see wwww.irishrail.com for details of schedules. From Killarney, Bus Éireann runs three buses a day to Cahersiveen the nearest town to Ballinskelligs. You will then need to take a taxi  or Local link bus to Ballinskelligs – see above.

Visitors can fly into Kerry Airport and can hire a car – N70 Killarney to Killorglin, N72 Killorglin to Cahersiveen, N72 to Ballinskelligs Turnoff – signposted R566 or you can take a taxi directly to Ballinskelligs, alternatively take the bus in to Killarney and Bus Eireann all the way to Cahersiveen, then taxi or Local link bus from Cahersiveen to Ballinskelligs.

Visitors can fly into Cork and can hire a car at the airport.
From: Cork To: Ballinskelligs, Kerry
Distance: 165.76 km Time: 2 hr 26 min
N22 to Killarney, N70 Killarney to Killorglin, N72 Killorglin to Cahersiveen to Ballinskelligs turnoff, signposted R566 to Ballinskelligs.

OR Avail of public transport and either take a train from Cork Train Station in the city centre to Killarney or Bus Eireann from the Central Bus Station to Killarney. There is a shuttle bus service between the airport and the train station. From Killarney, Bus Eireann to Cahersiveen, then taxi or Local link bus from Cahersiveen to Ballinskelligs.

Visitors can fly into Dublin and can either take a train from Dublin Heuston Train Station in the city centre to Killarney (go to www.irishrail.ie) or take Bus Eireann from Busáras Central Bus Station to Killarney. Also, flights are available with www.ryanair.com from Dublin to Kerry airport three times a day. Again Bus Eireann to Cahersiveen, taxi or Local link bus from Cahersiveen to Ballinskelligs.

There is a frequent shuttle bus from Shannon airport to Limerick. A direct bus goes from Limerick to Killarney and a further bus Killarney to Cahersiveen, taxi  or Local link bus from Cahersiveen to Ballinskelligs.
From: Limerick To: Waterville, Kerry
Distance: 174.61 km Time: 2 hr 44 min
N21 Limerick to Castleisland, N23 Castleisland to Firies, N70 Firies through Milltown, N72 Killorglin to Cahersiveen to turnoff for Ballinskelligs, approx 5km from the town, R566 to Ballinskelligs.

SEA FERRY FROM SWANSEA TO CORK

boat iconThe new Swansea to Cork route operated by Fastnet Line saves you 600km (375 miles) driving on a round trip and connects the M4 Motorway in the UK directly to Cork on Ireland’s South coast. The service offers overnight sailing 6 nights a week (Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday from Cork and Wednesday, Friday & Sunday from Swansea) departing at 21:00 and arriving at 7:00 the next morning. Additional sailings are added in the high season.
